NWSLL SOFTBALL

GIRLS SOFTBALL

Fastpitch softball continues to gain in popularity and more opportunities continue to become available for girls to play this amazing team sport. Within Little League District 8, the Seattle city Little Leagues (NW, Ballard, N Central, NE, Queen Anne & Magnolia) work together to create inter-league games and a playoff tournament for the “regular” spring season as well as fun, summer season play. As a group, we are committed to making sure that every girl in Seattle who wants to play gets the opportunity.

An ideal number of players on one team is around 13 which allows the best instruction and maximum playing time. When a league ends up with an “odd” number of girls, NWSLL works with the other Seattle Little Leagues to create “co-league” teams. The league with the most players on a co-league team becomes the “host” team and provides coaches and uniforms. Your daughter is still part of NWSLL, but she and her NWSLL teammates get the opportunity to create a new circle of friends and she may wear another league’s uniform for a season. These friends often end up going to middle school together and playing high school softball together!

KID PITCH SOFTBALL

Softball AA (New Division as of 2016) – Designed for players in Third grade. Fourth graders who are league age nine (younger half of the grade) may play AA. This division fills the developmental, skill and competitive gap between AAA and A. Pitching will incorporate players pitching, but may also include machine pitch. League age nine players may be eligible to be selected for an All Star Team. The number of events is typically two events per week.

Softball AAA (Formerly Minors) – Designed for Fourth and Fifth graders. Fifth graders who are league age eleven may be selected to play Majors Division. Players who are at least league age nine are eligible to be selected to an All Star Team. The number of events is typically three events per week.

Softball Majors – Designed for Sixth and Seventh graders. Seventh graders who are league age thirteen will play in the Juniors Division. Majors division encourages a higher level of skill to achieve more competitive levels. Games are played using the official rules of Little League Softball. All players are eligible to be selected to the All Star Team that competes for the Little League World Series. Players may be asked to attend a skill evaluation to be considered for this division. The number of events is typically three events per week.

Softball Juniors – Designed for Eight and Ninth graders league age 13 and 14. Competitive games may include double-headers on weekends.
